How to Move a Home Office Without Losing a Day of Work

By Amos Osho, Founder of Medway and Kent Removals | October 2026

Since 2020 the home office has become one of the most critical rooms to move correctly. Downtime is money. Here is how to move your home office setup without losing a working day.

Photograph everything before you dismantle

Before unplugging anything, photograph the back of your computer, monitor connections, router setup and any cable management. Rebuilding a complex desk setup from memory in a new room is slower than you think.

Back up everything the night before

Cloud backup should be running anyway. The night before the move, do a manual backup of anything critical. Computers survive moves but accidents happen.

Pack IT equipment last, unpack it first

Your monitors, desktop, external drives and peripherals should be the last things loaded and the first things delivered to their new location. Label every box clearly. Use original packaging where possible.

Check broadband before moving day

Broadband activation at your new address needs to be arranged in advance - sometimes weeks in advance for a new line. If you are working from home on moving day plus one, a 4G or 5G router is essential insurance.

Move on a Friday if possible

Moving on a Friday gives you the weekend to get your home office functional before the working week starts. The Monday morning pressure disappears and the setup feels less rushed.
