How to pay for your removal: deposit, in full or Klarna

Booking a removal should not leave you guessing what you owe or when you owe it. This guide explains how paying works with Medway and Kent Removals, the three ways you can pay when you book online, and what to check with any removal company before you hand over money.

The short version

You can choose between them on our instant quote and pay page once you have your price. Every price is fixed and there is no VAT on top. If you would rather talk it through first, you can ask for a free quote and pay later.

How the deposit works

A deposit holds your moving date. It is 10% of your fixed price, so on a £1,200 move the deposit is £120 and the remaining £1,080 is due on the day. You pay the balance to the crew by card, bank transfer or cash once the move is done.

A deposit suits most people. You commit to the date without paying the whole bill weeks ahead, and the money you have paid is refunded in full if your plans change.

Paying in full by card

Some customers prefer to settle everything when they book, for example when completion money is in place, when the move is paid for by an employer, or simply to keep moving day uncomplicated. If you choose this, you pay the whole fixed price by card at checkout. There is no balance to pay on the day, and you receive a confirmation email with the booking details.

Paying in full does not change your rights. Cancellation is still free and the full amount goes back to the card you used.

Paying with Klarna

Klarna is a payment method you can pick at checkout for moves up to £2,000. You pay the full price to Klarna at checkout, and Klarna shows you its own payment options on its secure page before you confirm anything. It is for customers aged 18 or over and is subject to Klarna's approval and terms. We explain how it works in paying for a removal with Klarna.

What a good removal company should never do

Be careful with any firm that asks for the full price up front by bank transfer, or for a large deposit with no written terms. We never require full payment up front. You can book with a 10% deposit, and paying in full is your choice, not something we ask for. Whoever you book with, get the deposit, the balance and the cancellation terms in writing before you pay. Our removal costs guide for Kent explains what a fair deposit looks like.

Cancellations and refunds

Cancellation is free. Anything you have paid, deposit or full price, is refunded the way you paid. A card payment goes back to your card. A Klarna payment is refunded through Klarna, and it can take a few days to show in your Klarna app.

Questions to ask any removal company before you pay

Frequently asked questions

How much is the deposit?

The deposit is 10% of your fixed price and secures your date. The remaining 90% is paid to the crew on moving day.

Can I pay in full when I book?

Yes. When you book online you can pay the whole price by card, and there is then nothing left to pay on the day.

How can I pay the balance on moving day?

By card, bank transfer or cash, paid to the crew. There is no VAT on top, so the price quoted is the price you pay.

What happens if I cancel?

Cancellation is free and everything you have paid is refunded the way you paid.
